Joe Montana Career Accomplishments:
Whether leading Notre Dame to a national championship, as he did in 1978, or the San Francisco 49ers to four Super Bowl titles during the 1980s, Joe Montana always kept his cool. He was the first and best master of Head Coach Bill Walsh's innovative "West Coast" offense, which changed the way the game has been played ever since. He will forever be remembered for his completion of a touchdown pass to 49er tight end Dwight Clark in the 1981 NFC Championship Game, which beat the Dallas Cowboys, heralded the start of the 49er dynasty, and became known simply as "The Catch." The fourth quarter drive he led to snatch a come-from-behind victory from the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII defined him to a generation of NFL faithful as, arguably, the greatest quarterback of all time. He won all four Super Bowls in which he played, throwing 11 touchdowns and no interceptions, and was named the game's MVP a record three times. His golden career was crowned in 2000 when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
