FSU + Denver Bronco’s
First of all thank you for taking the time for this interview
Q: What motivated you to do this site? (Nolzcountry.com)
A: The site actually started off as a project for a Web Design class I was taking in college. I had already put together a personal website so the instructor wouldn't let me use that. So I started one that was originally called "Seminolecountry.com". But funds were tight one year and I couldn't pay the domain fee and by the time I got the money together it was already registered to someone else. So I just switched it around to nolzcountry.com
Q: You mention that you have been following these teams for 30 years; are you an alumni of FSU?
A: No, I am not an alumni of FSU (yet). But my parents and an aunt and uncle are. And I have a great-aunt that went to FSU when it was Florida College for Women. I attended FSU my freshman year but the degree I was going for wasn't what I had hoped it would be so I transferred. I'd like to go back and take their online program to finish up one of these days, though.
Q: About how many people visit your site a year?
A: The site isn't heavily visited (which I don't mind). I think it generates approx 10,000-15,000 unique visits per year.
Q: Throughout the years, who have been your favorite players both as an athlete and personality?
A: It’s a toss up between Warrick Dunn and Peter Warrick. I've never met Dunn, but he was an amazing back while at FSU and has done great things in the pros. Plus his off-the-field charity work is a HUGE inspiration. I've actually had the pleasure of having lunch with Peter Warrick during my time at FSU. Yes he did make a poor choice that probably cost him the Heisman that year, but you cannot take away how electric he was on the field.
Q: What do you think needs to be done to make the teams you follow better next season?
A: For FSU, they have got to find a balanced attack again on offense. They are too two-dimensional with their play calling. Granted the entire team won't be playing together until the 4th game of the seaon (which means they'll need to take on Wake Forest without their entire depth). But the style of running game they use needs to adapt to the defensive schemes that teams are using now. Their D has to be tougher on the corners. Too many big plays are given up because the corners get caught napping are just out played "out in space". I think Tony Carter will have his men ready this year, though.
As for the Broncos, that's a tougher one. They need to get more consistency from their D and their QB/WR relationships. The running game has been a little suspect as well. I think they have more work to do than FSU does to get back to "Championship Level". But I've cheered for them through the dark years, and I will continue to ride out the storm in hopes that this year is "the" year.
I would also like to take this time to thank all my devoted fans who continue to visit the site. It is a small number, but a loyal group. Go Noles and Broncos!!
Thank you for this interview and good luck to the Seminoles and the Bronco’s.
Mike Crook
